Nobody is Going to Tell Carrie Underwood to “Shut Up and Sing”

So the last few days Carrie Underwood has caused quite a ruckus on the web with her comments regarding her disapproval of Tennessee HB 1191/SB1248, The Livestock Cruelty Prevention Act.  And since all my fellow ag peeps are raising their voices on the issue, I figured I might as well join the party!

In Tennessee, The Livestock Cruelty Prevention Act (HB 1191/SB1248) has passed in the state legislature and is now awaiting the signature of Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam. The measure stops animal rights activists from videotaping and editing videos to create animal cruelty on tape and sending these videos to the media and debuting them on social media to create publicity for something that may or may not have been fabricated. This measure certainly does not prevent farmers and ranchers from being transparent and helping to stop animal abuse, but it instead prohibits animal activists from going undercover with false pretenses in order to try and film abuse.

Well apparently, Carrie Underwood isn’t too happy about this measure entering into the agriculture world. A world she apparently LOVES and SUPPORTS so much, with her monthly donations to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), her vegetarianism, her support of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), and her blatant disregard for a majority of her country music fans, who I can probably guess are involved in agriculture. 

Now what boils my blood more than ever, is that she supports groups such as HSUS, an anti-animal agriculture extremist group who would be MORE THAN HAPPY to put her ranching parents out of a job. Come on Carrie, do your research, talk to your family, realize what you are potentially supporting!

I was reading an article about some recent comments Underwood made about the TN bill saying: "Shame on TN lawmakers for passing the Ag Gag bill. If Gov. Bill Haslam signs this, he needs to expect me at his front door. Who's with me?"

In response, State Representative Andy Holt, who supports the bill, told local news: "I would say that Carrie Underwood will stick to singing, I'll stick to lawmaking."

To that I say, right on Representative Holt. This is just another example of celebrities using their status to try and manipulate the legal system.

The first sentence of that article also said, “nobody is going to tell Carrie Underwood to “shut up and sing”.

Well correction, I am …and I just did.

I Don't Give a QUACK, Jack.

Disclaimer: The following blog post uses "fowl" language and extreme sarcasm, but if it pisses you off, I really don't give a QUACK!

DUCK DYNASTY, probably the best thing to happen to America in along time. So if you don't know who the Duck Dynasty guys are, let me first ask, what kind of rock have you been living under?

Well the other night, I was watching Jimmy Kimmel, and Jimmy said that Morrisey (I guess he is a singer of some sort), would not be his musical guest for the night. Morrisey is a vegan animal activist, and he was appalled by the fact that he would be on a show with the Duck Dynasty gang, calling them "serial animal killers" and he said it would ruin his reputation.  So Morrisey told Kimmel it was either him or the duck killers. Well SHOCKER, the boys with guns won!

But the gang felt somewhat bad about the whole situation and felt they could do a little better job with their vegan friends....

So, now for my sermon.  I understand that we all have different views about all aspects of life.  But here is a little tip, if someone doesn't have the same view as you, who gives a QUACK! Mr. Morrisey, I am happy for you that you find ALL animals so beautiful and purpose filled that you choose not to eat them, but I however, prefer to slap animals that were created for consumption between two pieces of bread with a little BBQ sauce.

I don't get why people feel that if someone doesn't agree with what they believe, they feel they have the right to sensor others into making the same choice as them. It doesn't work that way people.

So in closing, Mr. Morrisey, thank you for being passionate about what you believe, but shut the QUACK up and let these guys do what they do.  You don't see them throwing a hissy fit because they were going to be on  a show with a "serial vegetable murderer" do you? Now sit down, chill out, grab a hamburger (well for you Mr. Morrisey maybe just the bun), and watch this great show about a faith filled family who works hard and plays even harder!
